The Prime Minister of Jamaica, The Most Honorable Andrew Holness & Mrs. Holness were hosted at a Cocktail Reception held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Shanghai on 03 Nov 2019. This historic occasion was the Prime Ministers’ first visit to China.
The reception was chaired by Dr. Nicoleen Johnson, General Manager of Global Connections Gateway Ltd. – a Shanghai-based Consultancy Firm specializing in facilitating business between western & Chinese Companies.
Dr. Johnson – herself a Jamaican, delivered a well-received opening speech during which she shared some of her expertise & experiences drawing from 23 years of living & working in China with the visiting delegation.
The delegation also included the following persons along with other dignitaries:
The Honorable Kamina Johnson Smith – (Minister of Foreign Affairs & Trade)
The Honorable Audley Shaw – (Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture & Fisheries)
His Excellency Ambassador Antonia Hugh – (Jamaican Ambassador to China)
Mrs. Diane Edwards – President of JAMPRO (Jamaica Promotions)
The Jamaican Community as well as other Caribbean Nationals living in Shanghai and nearby cities were well represented at this momentous event. This was especially due to Dr. Johnson being the founding President of the Caribbean Association in China. The hope of the Prime Minister is that going forward there will be stronger unilateral ties between China & Jamaica with the local Jamaican diaspora playing an integral role.
